Chiropractic
Medicine
Because of its effectiveness
in treating back problems, headaches and injuries, and trauma
symptoms, chiropractic has become the second largest primary health
care system in the world. It’s one of the most accepted
alternative practices out there – so much so, in fact, that
it’s covered by most private insurance firms.
The entire study of natural
medicine revolves around accepting the fact that the body has
amazing ability to heal itself.
Chiropractic healing revolves
around the understanding that the nervous system, housed in the
spinal column and musculoskeletal system holds the key to a great
portion of this healing ability.
As in Ayurvedic medicine
where the practitioner can find clues to bodily dysfunction on
your tongue, a chiropractor can find evidence of disorder by examining
your spinal column.
Subluxations
– Nerve interference caused by misalignments in the spine.
In EFT, a disruption of
the natural flow of energy is understood to be caused by a traumatic
event, or the minds interpretation of an event as traumatic.
In chiropractic, the event
that causes trauma, therefore an energy flow disruption, is a
change in the alignment of the spine . . . called a subluxation.
When
to see a chiropractor
– Years after a fall, even where the resulting back pain
subsided very quickly, people may find that a hip or spinal joint
is deteriorating quicker than normal, with no apparent reason
why. The reason could be because there was damage to a disc or
joint that was never properly resolved.
If you’ve been to your family doctor for joint or muscle
disorders, tried relaxants or other pain relief medications and
still found no relief, it may be time to visit a chiropractor.
Chiropractic
methods
– Chiropractors employ a number of methods to bring immediate
relief and begin the healing process. Some of these methods include:
Chiropractic
adjustment, where the goal is to increase range of motion. The
chiropractor may use touch, have the patient move in specific
ways to loosen tense joints/muscles, or passive movement –
where he/she assists the patient with specific adjustment type
movement.
Non force
technique, where gentle touch along the spine, neck and skull
is applied.
Heat, and/or
heat with electrical impulses. Often an electrical impulse device
(called a TENS machine when built small and portable enough to
be used at home) is used with heat applied at the same time.
Though not covered by government
health insurance (at least not in Canada), chiropractic services
are often covered by company and private insurance plans. It’s
pretty easy to understand why government programs don’t
cover this service, and equally easy to understand why private
plans do. The truth is that for many disorders, particularly those
resulting from an accident where there may be an insurance claim,
chiropractic service is one of the few shown to actually work.
Quicker relief equals shorter pay off period, and accounting is
one of an insurance companies best allies.
